One Walk Step Challenge
Join the One Walk Step Challenge
Now YOU can join the One Walk movement from ANY location across Australia and walk for a world without type 1 diabetes.
How? Join the One Walk Step Challenge and walk 120,000 steps over 12 days to support the 120,000 Australians living with type 1 diabetes.
The challenge starts on World Diabetes Day, Tuesday 14 November, and goes until Sunday 26 November.
You can complete your challenge as an individual, family or team. Walk over a weekend, a week or walk 10,000 steps per day over the 12 days. You walk at your own pace and every step you take will help us raise funds to better treat and, one day, prevent and cure T1D.
Grab your friends and family and pound the pavement in your local area. Let’s walk together this November to turn type one into type none!
Simply sign up (for FREE), spread the word and step out to show your support.

How do I get involved?
Follow these steps to get involved in the One Walk Step Challenge:
- Sign up to take part as an individual or create a team with family or friends
- Set your goals for fundraising and steps (i.e. how many days will you take to complete your steps)
- Share your fundraising page and ask friends and family to support your challenge
- Start walking on World Diabetes Day (Tuesday 14 November) and show your support for Australians living with type one diabetes
No. You do not have to walk every day. You set your own challenge within the 12 days and complete your steps at a time and pace that suits you and your own abilities and schedule.
If 120,000 steps is too much, then we’re happy for you to set your own target (i.e. 60,000 steps over 12 days).
10,000 steps per day if the recommended amount of steps for an active person.
If you can’t complete 120,000 steps, then simply choose a goal that suits you and your lifestyle.
For example, you could walk 60,000 steps as an individual or create a team where everyone’s steps count towards your 120,000 step team goal.
The most important thing is that you take a positive ‘step’ and make your personal impact to support the 120,000 Australians living with type one diabetes.
Absolutely. Simply create a team for your family or friends (or both) when you sign up and every team members’ steps will be added to the overall team total towards your 120,000 steps team goal.
Alternatively, you can still create a team where everyone completes their own personal challenge of 120,000 steps. It’s your choice.
120,000 steps is approximately 91 kilometres.
Remember, ALL your steps are counted throughout the day as you walk to work, in the office and around your local community.
Everywhere. You can count every step you take throughout the challenge.
Here are some great ideas of how to count your steps:
- Go for a walk at lunchtime
- Walk to / from work (or get off public transport at an earlier stop)
- Go for a twilight walk with your family and enjoy the warmer weather
- Walk your kids to school
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator
You can count your steps in the following ways:
Add them manually to your One Walk Step Challenge fundraising page. Click here for a guide on how to add your steps to your fundraising page.
Connect a fitness app to your page. You can connect MapMyFitness, Strava or Fitbit to your One Walk Step Challenge page and the kilometres you walk will automatically be added to your total.
We’ll be updating this page with more information and instructions on how to add your kilometres.
Indeed. If you want to run, cycle or take on another fitness challenge, then simply log your activities the same way and tell everyone about your efforts to turn type one into type none.
