Frequently Asked Questions
Hosting a Walk
Q: How do I bring JDRF One Walk to my local area?
A: You can host your own JDRF One Walk in your local area with help and support from JDRF. If you would like to host a Walk in your local community (or be part of a hosting committee) please visit Host a Walk. Alternatively, call 1300 363 126 or email firstname.lastname@example.org and a JDRF team member will contact you to discuss the details. We are here to help you every step of the way!
Q. Can I use my Walk login details from last year?
The 2016 JDRF One Walk is being run on the same fundraising system this year, so you will be able to use some of your login details from last year. You will need to create a new Walk page though.
Q. How can I create or join a JDRF One Walk team?
In the second step of the registration process, the second option on the page is to “Create” or “Find” a team. You can either skip over this question, create your own team, or find and join an existing team. Please note – you will need to know the name of the team in order to find them on the system.
Q. I’m having a problem updating my fundraising page, what do I do?
For all technical support with your fundraising page, including updates, link changes, name changes, and more, please contact the Everyday Hero Support Team at: https://supporter.help-au.everydayhero.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.
Q: How can I fundraise?
A: There’s so many different ways! Most people start by sharing their personal page on social media or via email – but don’t forget to personalise your page first! You can also try more creative methods, and we have some fun ideas, resources, templates and tips online. See them here.
Q. How do I bank the cash I have collected?
A. Visit this page for full instructions on donating money (like cash or cheques) you have collected to ensure that it shows up on your Everyday Hero fundraising page.
Q. Where does the fundraising money go?
A. Each year, JDRF One Walk brings together hundreds of thousands of people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). These Walks allow JDRF to fund life-changing research, helping to lessen the everyday burden of T1D and, ultimately, create a world where it no longer exists—a world where Type One has become Type None. Find out more about JDRF's global type 1 diabetes research program.
Q: Are donations tax deductible?
A: All donations over $2.00 are tax deductible. When you complete the online donation process an official receipt will automatically be sent to your nominated email address.
Q: How can I make a donation?
A: Donations can be made online at walk.jdrf.org.au. Choose a team or a person, or sponsor ‘Team JDRF’.
Q: How do I know if my donation was successful?
A: If you have provided a valid email address, you will receive an official receipt via email shortly after you complete the donation process. You should also see your donation listed on the page of the person you are supporting. If you have any problems with your receipt, please visit https://supporter.help-au.everydayhero.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.
Q: Can I donate anonymously?
A: If you prefer your donation be anonymous, there are a few simple steps you can take. When filling out the donation page, leave the "Donor Message" section blank. This means your name will not appear on the Supporter page. Or In the "Donor Details" section, the box is automatically checked that will send your name and email address to the Supporter. If you would prefer to remain anonymous, you can uncheck the box. This means your details will not be given to the Supporter. If you are appearing as anonymous on a Supporter page and you do not want to be, or vice versa, please Contact Us and we can change this for you!
Q: Will I receive a receipt for an online donation?
A: If you have provided a valid email address, you will receive an official receipt after you complete the online donation process.
Q: Can I make an ongoing donation to JDRF?
A: Should you wish to make a one-time or recurring general donation, directly to JDRF, please visit www.jdrf.org.au/donate or call 1300 363 126.
Q: Does it cost anything to do the Walk?
A: There is no fee to attend the Walk - we ask all Walkers to fundraise or make a donation. Some Walks do ask for a gold coin donation for some of the rides and activities on the day. We encourage all Walkers to contribute in some way – there’d be nothing to celebrate if no money was raised! The more money we raise, the more money we can contribute towards type 1 diabetes research.
Q: Will there be food at the event?
A: Catering options vary at each Walk. Please check the information about the Walk you are attending at walk.jdrf.org.au, select your state, pick your Walk site and click on Learn More.
Q: What happens if it rains on the day of the Walk?
A: Walks will not be cancelled due to rain, so we encourage you to still attend – just bring your wet weather gear!
