Type 1 diabetes (T1D), is a lifelong autoimmune condition that destroys the body’s ability to produce insulin. Insulin helps convert sugar into the fuel that our bodies need.
Without insulin, sugar builds up in the bloodstream in life-threatening amounts. Since people with T1D cannot produce insulin naturally, they must take it either through multiple daily injections or from an insulin pump.
JDRF has transformed the understanding of this disease and been a part of every breakthrough in T1D care in the last 50 years. We drive innovation, demand action and stand with everyone facing life with T1D.
We have invested nearly $2 billion in T1D research since our inception. We collaborate with academic institutions, policymakers, and corporate and industry partners to develop and deliver a pipeline of innovative therapies to people living with T1D.
