The JDRF One Walk has one goal… to explore even more treatment options for type 1 diabetes (T1D) by raising funds and awareness about the condition.
Your fundraising efforts through the One Walk Step Challenge will fund critical research to improve lives and cure type 1 diabetes.
Research is the key to changing lives of the thousands of families in Australia who fight this condition every day.
Entry to the JDRF One Walk is FREE, so it’s only through our community actively fundraising that we can get closer to a world without type 1 diabetes.
To help you on your way, we’ve put together a list of our top tips and ideas to help you reach your fundraising goal.
Set a fundraising goal
Set a fundraising goal as your first step so everyone knows what you are trying to achieve. The more ambitious your goal, the more motivated your friends will be to support you, so don’t be afraid to aim high!
Donate to yourself
Make the first donation yourself to set the standard and encourage your friends to follow your lead. This will show your personal commitment to the cause and inspire others to support you.
Your fundraising page
Login now and personalise your fundraising page to share your reason for taking part and ask your friends to sponsor your walk.
Here are some key ways to use your page:
- Upload a photo of yourself or the person you’re walking for
- Share your personal story for taking part in JDRF One Walk
- Post blog updates (on your page) to thank your sponsors and update everyone on your progress
Send an email
Email is a great way to ask your friends for their support. Send an email to your friends, family and colleagues and share your reason for taking part in One Walk.
Make your email serious or silly, heartfelt or humorous, as long as it‘s from you.
Use social media
Social media is a great way to keep people up to date on your progress and ask for support. Ideally, you want to be posting an update at least once a week to keep you top of mind and thank your sponsors.
When posting on social media, don’t forget to include your fundraising page link so your friends can click straight through to your fundraising page.
Check out these great social media downloads, which you can add to your personal Facebook page to tell everyone about your walk.
You can use social media to ask your friends for support, update followers on your progress, celebrate milestones (e.g. when you reach your goal) and publicly thank your sponsors.
Please note that when posting on Facebook, ensure you use the link to your own personal fundraising page, as donations made through the general Facebook donation link won't reflect on your fundraising page!
