For those who may not know, type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the immune system mistakenly attacks the insulin producing cells in the pancreas. Insulin is a hormone essential for regulating blood sugar levels, and without it, blood sugar can spike dangerously high or drop too low, leading to life threatening complications.
Unlike type 2 diabetes, type 1 is not caused by diet or lifestyle—it can affect anyone, at any age, and there is currently no cure. Managing type 1 requires constant monitoring of blood glucose levels, precise insulin dosing, and a deep understanding of how food, exercise, stress, and even illness impact the body.
Type 1 diabetes is a condition we both live with 24/7.
It takes incredible focus and mental energy to calculate and dose insulin correctly—a life saving drug that must be handled carefully, as too much or too little can be deadly.
It takes courage to endure the countless needles, finger pricks, and
site changes we face daily. And it takes resilience to cope with a disease that doesn’t sleep. There are no breaks, no days off, and no way to "pause" type 1.
That’s why this walk means so much to us. By supporting us, you’re helping to fund life changing research that improves treatment options, enhances quality of life, and brings us closer to a future where type 1 diabetes is no longer a reality. Every dollar raised is a step towards a cure for this crazy disease.
