I'm walking for Finn

Join Us in the Fight to Give Finn—and Thousands Like Him—a Life Without Type 1 Diabetes

I never dreamed when I had a 23 month old who was thirsty, cranky (like most toddlers...), and wetting through a lot of nappies that we'd go to the doctor and head straight to hospital for a week.

When I finally comprehended what a Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis meant for both Finn and us, I remember feeling an overwhelming sense of grief... how would our lives ever be the same? Could he live a happy, carefree life like other kids? Many parents and those diagnosed with T1 go through the same grieving process as they come to terms with it; mental health issues are common with T1s and their families because of the burden it places on your life.

The thing is, Type 1 is often hidden and a lot of people (me included when he was diagnosed) don't know that it's a 24/7 thing to manage that requires constant top of mind vigilance and attention. Because the consequences of not paying attention are life threatening.

For Finn, that means finger pricks, insulin injections, and a lot of tough moments that most kids his age don’t have to deal with. It’s missing out on having fun because his blood sugar is too low or high. It’s Sime staying up late and me waking up through the night if he's high or low, praying his levels are stable so he can sleep safely through the night and that we can get some rest too.

But here’s the thing—Finn is incredibly brave. He faces it all with a strength and resilience that leave me in awe. He deserves a future without needles, without constant calculations, without the fear of what could happen if we make a mistake.

That’s why I do the JDRF One Walk every year. It’s not just about raising money—it’s about hope. It’s about believing that one day, type 1 diabetes won’t rule our lives. Every donation, every step we take, gets us closer to that day.

If you can, please walk with us or donate. It would mean the world to Finn and to all the families like ours who dream of a life without T1D. Thank you for your support—together, we can make a difference.
