I am taking part in JDRF One Walk to try and turn type one into type none!
In January this year I found out that I have Type 1 diabetes. It was a very big and scary surprise but I spent lots of time with the amazing doctors and nurses at Lady Cilento in Brisbane and they have helped me so much in learning about managing my diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that can strike at any time. It affects more than 120,000 Australian families, and 7 people are diagnosed every day. The hardest thing about diabetes is knowing that other kids just like me and even younger will find out that they too have diabetes. It can be scary for a little kid to find out their life is going to change and a really stressful time for the kids and their familes as they go through lots of change. Thankfully with great doctors, nurses and educators it's a lot easier but one day it would be nice to not have worry about it at all!
I am walking with my Dad and sister Georgie with the #JDRFbluearmy to raise funds for research to cure, prevent and better treat type 1 diabetes. I hope that one day by creating awareness and raising lots of funds we can make sure families in Australia and all around the world can be free of the restrictions of Type one diabetes.
Please DONATE NOW and support our walk to change the lives of Australians living with T1D.
