I am taking part in the world’s biggest Type 1 Diabetes fundraising event the JDRF One Walk and Port Macquarie is part of it for the 3rd year running! I will be walking for my daughter Charlotte to turn type one into type none!
Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that can strike at any time. It affects more than 120,000 Australian families, and 7 people are diagnosed every day. It is a life-long chronic disease with currently there is no cure for it. Anyone living with T1D requires daily injections of insulin to survive and multiple finger prick testing to check blood sugar levels, this could be up to 8 times per day.
Our daughter Charlotte was diagnosed suddenly with Type 1 Diabetes two weeks after her 3rd birthday, she is now 11 years old. Managing Type 1 Diabetes has become a normal part of our families’ daily life. We have no other choice. Her pancreas does not produce insulin so therefore she requires insulin to survive. Every day can be a challenge but you continue to fight through the highs and lows of this terrible disease.
A few years ago Charlotte’s wish to Santa was to not have diabetes anymore, so with this walk we created a team and named it Charlotte’s Wish!
We are passionate advocates for Type 1 Diabetes research with JDRF representing our local electorate area, helping to make a difference to peoples’ lives living with Type 1 Diabetes with much needed support and funding.
So I am walking with the #JDRFbluearmy to raise funds for research to cure, prevent and better treat Type 1 Diabetes.
Please support my walk and our join our team Charlotte’s Wish. You could help to change the lives of Australians living with T1D. If you would like to make a donation towards our team I would be so grateful.
Thank you all for your love and support!
