Mara 2 (of 3)

Pat & Nic joined me for a bucket-list run - the entire Thredbo Valley Track.

False start after not heeding my wife’s advice! Once on the right track we settled into our 40+k of single track beside a fast flowing Thredbo river.

About 10k in the legs began feeling heavy & I questioned the wisdom of running a second marathon in 2 weeks at altitude & mainly going up hill.

Got to 20k OK & then the wheels fell off. Nic & I alternated time in the hurt locker while Pat led from the front, making vlogs & being awesome.

Coming into Thredbo Marty sent through an all caps DO NOT CLIMB MOUNTIAN. Late season snow meant not safe for some lads in runners!! So we changed tack & headed to Dead Horse Gap after a pit stop for pretzels + Nutella (amazing).

Slow plot to Dead Horse. The trail finished before my watch reached 42k but the track markings indicated more than 43k so we called it a day & took a quick cold dip in the beautiful river we’d run beside all day.

Marathon 1 (of 3)

4:30 start with b’day brother in-law Jimmy. First 20k went fast, only hiccup was a very muddy paddock and some frisky cows. After 20k things got harder. Jimmy relayed over to Jacob @ 27k & we slogged up the last hill with a flat run into ParkRun. Was hard getting restarted but Jimmy came for another 5k while Jacob smashed a sub 20(!). Excited to see all the CBR fam at the finish line.

Still had 2k to go at the end so cut laps around the bakery before finishing with a cinna-bun!

My Story

I'm going to run 3 marathons (around 125KM) in October as part of the One Walk Step Challenge to support the more than 125,000 people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in Australia.

The resources from JDRF when Rocco was diagnosed with T1D were fantastic, especially Rufus the bear with diabetes!  I want to give back to an organisation that has supported us.
