Woop Woop - We did it!

Blue skies and sweaty humidity came out just in time for our walk on Sunday and TEAM KENNEDY smashed it!! We had so much fun and it was lovely to connect with others who understand just how much goes into our daily lives.
Thank you to our beautiful Cairns family Ann, Chris and Hollie for your love and support and to Chris and Hollie for doing the walk with us.
Kennedy and Hollie did not stop talking the whole way!! And they’re already planning next year’s shirts……
Thank you to everyone for your amazing support for our first JDRF one walk. This has been a great experience for our family.
Kennedy is now hoping she can get to $800 so please share this. Every little bit helps and who knows that $2 might help find a cure ??

Another big thank you.

Team Kennedy would like to say another massive big thank you to everyone for their incredibly generous support of Kennedy in our first JDRF one walk. She has set a new target of $500 to challenge herself.
We’ve been busy selling diabetes awareness badges and trying to get our steps up. We are aiming for 248000 steps in March - that’s 8000 steps a day for the 8 people diagnosed with diabetes every day.
Diabetes is unrelenting. It is a 24/7 disease. Every single thing that Kennedy eats has to be accounted for, there is no sneaky snacks from the fridge after school.
Behind the scenes there’s a language no child should be fluent in- hypos, hypo kits, hypers, glucose levels, ketones, insulin injections, finger pricks, sensor insertion sites, carb counts, and lipohypertrophy.
While you and your children are asleep we often have alarms going off through the night telling us that she is low or high and we have to treat her because there is the very real danger that she might not wake up if we don’t.
Then there’s the daily mental exhaustion of the fact that diabetes means we make at least 180 more decisions a day.
Having diabetes means Kennedy is more at risk of developing mental health issues than her friends. She also more at risk of things like heart disease, kidney failure, glaucoma, cataracts, dental issues, anorexia, neuropathy and more.
We are walking to raise awareness about diabetes and to help fund research so that hopefully one day our little superhero can say     “I used to have diabetes. It was horrible and I’m glad they found a cure.”
So please feel free to share this with others,  every little bit counts.

Massive Thank You

Team Kennedy just wanted to say a massive big thank you to everyone that’s jumped on board so far. We were hoping people would chuck in their spare change so we’ve been blown away by the very generous donations so far. Kennedy hit her goal of $200 in the first 24 hours so now she’s hoping she can raise $400.
Thank you again. We’re blessed to have such amazing support.
TEAM KENNEDY- Type ONE-derful

I'm walking in Cairns to turn type one into type none!

I'm joining the world's largest walk for a future without type 1 diabetes (T1D) at Cairns Esplanade Fun Ship Playground on Sunday 23 March 2025!

Why? To help fund life-changing research aimed at improving lives and curing T1D.

Type 1 diabetes can strike anyone at any time, and 8 Australians are diagnosed every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy.

I hate that I have to inject myself 5 or more times a day just to stay healthy. I sometimes have to miss out on the things that I love because of my diabetes. I would like a cure for Type 1 diabetes because I’d like to be a professional dancer when I grow up.

It’s been tough but I am strong.

Please support my walk today.
