Diagnosis Day May 3rd 2024

When Imogen was diagnosed, it came as a complete shock, I took her to the hospital ED with trouble breathing, thinking she was having an asthma attack or something, within 15 minute of arriving, we had a type 1 diabetes diagnosis, her sugars were over 28 and her ketones were unchartable.. the doctors were shocked she wasn’t in a coma… or worse..

We missed the signs of diabetes, because in hind sight; we had an explanation for them all, a teenage girl, hormones, and she also hid a lot of symptoms from us.

She spent 3 days in ICU and then a further 5 days in the childrens ward, being taught our new way of life, multiple daily injections, checking blood sugars, how to administer life saving glycogen, carb counting.

I can’t imagine what she goes through on a daily basis, balancing her sugars, having that on her mind 24/7

Having high blood sugars that make her feel sick, and irritable and yuck. To having low sugars, that are scary, make her shaky, feel dizzy and what feels like the longest 15+ mins trying to get them back up to normal range.

In saying all of this, all of the hard she has endured, she has taken it all in her stride and hasn’t let it get the better of her. She has recently just got her first job and is still smashing school grades, I am so proud of her, for dealing with all of this, while still just trying to be a 14 year old girl!

Let’s get together and raise awareness and funds so hopefully one day we can have a world without diabetes!!
