Niamhs T1DM
Niamh was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at end of September last year. As parents we noticed excessive thirst and hunger.
With a quick blood test at doctors it was confirmed her blood sugar levels were very high
Niamhs pancreas had stopped producing insulin
It was a trip to womens and children's ED
Right there she needed insulin and then her freedom to eat when she wanted stopped. Her 6th birthday will always be the one we remember, newly diagnosed and unable to regulate her blood sugars normally. The best present in the world would be to find a cure.
Niamh depends on insulin and blood sugar monitoring 24/7.
for Niamh this is life, regular needles for insulin, regular needles for blood sugar monitoring.
Diabetes is genetic and is thought to be caused by a virus that attacks the pancreas causing it to stop producing insulin
insulin is needed by the body to break down sugar and turn it into energy.
when Niamhs blood sugar is high/low she feels terrible- sick, lethargic, shaky, thirsty and abdomial pain and even though she is resilient this is something that she and us as parents would love to take from her.
we as a family carb count on the daily, every meal, every snack and not a minute goes by where we aren't checking her bgl.
type 1 is for life and there is no cure as yet, please help us raise funds for this condition to help find a cure.
