I'm walking for a world without type one diabetes

Welcome - first post

Hi readers,

For those of you who don't know me, my name's Neridah
and I want to share my journey with diabetes—a journey that has shaped my life in profound ways. I've been a type 1 diabetic for a little over 16 (or so) years now... honestly I've lost count. Diagnosed with diabetes at such a young age I quickly learned that this condition is not just a part of my life; it’s a challenge that I face every day.

It's been a wild ride and I have had plenty of ups and downs along the way but I am grateful to be here and have a condition that is manageable.

There are 2 other diabetics within my close family, my Dad and my older brother. We're all pretty close and I'm thankful I have them to discuss the ups and downs with - they are also part of the reason I'm here today to not only help raise funds but awareness.

I know over the years treating and managing diabetes has vastly changed and I'm so grateful for how far technology has come in the short time I've been diagnosed. From having up to 6 or more injections a day, to now only having 1 every 2-3 days is incredible and finger pricking becoming "less" needed due to CGM's is just a small step into how it can be treated in the future.

Please if you've made it this far, donate what you can or even better join my team and walk along side me on the day. I am forever grateful to those that have stuck by my side through the difficulties I have faced and those who continue to support me to be my best. Every donation, no matter the size, contributes to a brighter future for those living with this condition.

Together, we can make strides toward better care, understanding, and support for all.

I'm walking in Cairns to turn type one into type none!

I'm joining the world's largest walk for a future without type 1 diabetes (T1D) at Cairns Esplanade on Sunday 23 March 2025!

Why? To help fund life-changing research aimed at improving lives and curing T1D.

Type 1 diabetes can strike anyone at any time, and 8 Australians are diagnosed every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy.

I have been advocating to raise awareness for Type 1 Diabetes for a while now as it is something close within my family. Although it is hard living with this condition, I keep reminding myself that I have diabetes and it doesn't control me or my life. With hope, one day there can and will be a cure.

Please support my walk today.
