I'm walking for a world without type one diabetes

I'm walking in Melbourne to turn type one into type none!

I'm joining the world's largest walk for a future without type 1 diabetes (T1D) at Princes Park on Sunday 2 March 2025! As well as walking 10k steps a day during February!

Hi, my name is sophie, and I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) when I was just a year and a half old. This year January 2nd marked my 17th anniversary of living with this chronic condition. Over the years, managing my blood sugar, insulin doses, and carb counting has become second nature to me, but it’s still a full-time job with no breaks and no cure in sight. Type 1 Diabetes is a constant condition that requires my attention 24 hours a day, every single day of the year.

This February i will be walkimg 10k steps a day and on March 2nd i will be participating in JDRFS One Walk to raise awareness and funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Every step I take will not only help raise awareness but will also support the ongoing work to improve the lives of those living with T1D

As someone who has lived with T1D for nearly my entire life, I can tell you that the impact is profound. It doesn’t matter if I’m sleeping, working, or enjoying time with my friends or family—my blood sugar and insulin levels demand constant attention. It’s a relentless balancing act, and there are no breaks.

T1D can affect anyone at any time, and it is a lifelong challenge. That’s why I’m asking for your support in my fundraising efforts. Your donations will go directly to JDRF’s mission to find better treatments, a cure, and solutions that can hopefully make living with Type 1 Diabetes easier for people like me. Every dollar counts, and your support can make a real difference in the lives of those affected.

I’m walking for a cure, I’m walking for a future where children don’t have to endure the daily struggles of T1D, where children don't have to be responsible for keeping themselves alive every single day. I’m walking for my own future, where a cure could mean freedom from this relentless condition. I hope you’ll join me in this journey. Your contribution is more than just a donation—it’s a step closer to a world without Type 1 Diabetes.

Thank you for your support.
