I'm walking in Perth to turn type one into type none!
I'm joining the world's largest walk for a future without type 1 diabetes (T1D) at Burswood Park on Sunday 9 March 2025!
Why? To help fund life-changing research aimed at improving lives and curing T1D.
Type 1 diabetes can strike anyone at any time, and 8 Australians are diagnosed every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy.
In September 2024 four days after his first birthday we nearly lost our baby at 12 months old to severe DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis).
He is an incredible little boy with the most infectious smile, a roll with the punches kind of guy who loves all his people.
He now has a lifetime of ups and downs ahead of him with this slightly altered future.
We have to make hundreds of decisions to essentially save his life each and every day.
Our goal is to raise enough money to go towards the already incredible research being done to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes - so that Leighton and every other type 1 sufferer can look forward to a stress free future.
No baby should have to go through what my baby has and what I would give to be able to take this burden off him.
